Free, and staying free

No paywall. Ever.

Every route on this site is free to read, map, and download. No subscription, no account, no locked content. If it saves you some planning, you can chip in.

Why

Good route information should not be locked up

Walking guides get paywalled, wrapped in subscriptions, or buried under adverts. That is a poor deal for someone who just wants to know where to park and whether the beck is crossable. So everything here is open: the full route, the map, the GPX, the warnings, the facilities.

Running it is not free, though. Hosting, mapping tiles, image storage, and the time that goes into fact-checking each route all add up. Donations cover that, and keep the site from having to lean harder on advertising.

FAQ

Common questions

Is it really all free?

Yes. Every published walk, map, and GPX file is free to everyone, with no paywall and no account required. Creating an account is optional and only adds offline saves and Wainwright progress tracking.

What do donations pay for?

Hosting, mapping and image storage, the domain, and the time spent fact-checking each route before it goes up.

Do I get anything extra for donating?

No. Donating does not unlock anything, because there is nothing locked. It simply helps keep the site running and ad-light.

Are donations refundable?

Donations are voluntary gifts rather than purchases, so they are not refundable. If something has gone wrong with a payment, get in touch and we will sort it out.

What about the PDF guides?

A few in-depth printable guides are sold separately through Payhip, and some are free to download. Those are the only paid items on the site, and you can find them on the resources page.
