Terms of Service
Last updated: 14 April 2026
These terms govern your use of Walk Routes (“we”, “us”, “our”), including any donation you choose to make. By using the service you agree to these terms. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
1. The Service
Walk Routes provides digital walking guides for the Lake District, including route maps, GPX files, and walk descriptions. All walk content on this site is free to access, with no payment and no account required. Creating an account is optional and only enables extra features such as saving walks for offline use and tracking Wainwright progress.
2. Eligibility
The site is open to all. If you are under 18, you should use it with the consent of a parent or guardian, and you must be at least 18 to make a donation or buy a printable guide.
3. Donations
- Donations are voluntary and are handled by a third-party platform (Ko-fi), not by us directly.
- Donating does not purchase or unlock any content, because no content on this site is locked.
- As voluntary gifts rather than purchases, donations are not refundable. If a payment has been made in error, contact us at support@walkroutes.co.uk and we will do what we can to help.
- Donations are not tax-deductible and we are not a registered charity.
4. Printable Guides
Some in-depth printable PDF guides are offered for sale, and others for free, through the third-party platform Payhip. Any paid guide is sold by us via Payhip, and Payhip's own terms and checkout process apply to that transaction. Prices are in GBP and inclusive of any applicable VAT.
Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you normally have a 14-day right to cancel. Because these guides are digital content delivered immediately, by completing a purchase you consent to immediate delivery and acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once you download the guide (Regulation 37). If you have not downloaded it, you may request a full refund within 14 days by emailing support@walkroutes.co.uk.
5. Digital Content, Consumer Rights Act 2015
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, paid digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. If a guide you have paid for does not meet these standards, you are entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund. Please contact us at support@walkroutes.co.uk if you believe the content is defective.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Resell or redistribute our content, in particular the paid printable guides, as your own.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or copy route data from the platform.
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms.
7. Safety Disclaimer
Walking in the Lake District involves inherent risk. Our guides are provided for informational purposes only. You are responsible for your own safety and for assessing whether a route is appropriate for your fitness level and conditions on the day. Always check weather forecasts, carry appropriate equipment, and inform someone of your plans.
Route information may become outdated. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of path conditions, signage, or access rights at the time of your walk.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Walk Routes shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from use of the service or reliance on our content. As the service is provided free of charge, our total liability for any claim relating to it shall not exceed £50, or, where the claim relates to a paid printable guide, the amount you paid for that guide.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be limited under English law.
9. Intellectual Property
All content on Walk Routes, including route descriptions, maps, and GPX data, is owned by or licensed to us. Your purchase grants a personal licence to use the content; it does not transfer ownership. You may not reproduce or distribute our content without written permission.
10. Service Availability
We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We are not liable for downtime caused by maintenance, third-party services, or circumstances beyond our control.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree with updated terms, you may close your account and request a refund for unused purchases.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to your rights as a consumer under applicable local law.
